Internet Users Boldly Protect Free Speech—by Blocking Anyone with a Different Opinion
We are the brink right now. Or close to it.
Imagine this.
You’re in the quite dark safety of your bed at night. Phone in hand, commenting on Facebook about someone arrested during a riot in your town.
You and others are going back and forth about the evidence. Whether he is guilty or not.
12 hours later. A knock on the door.
You open it.
It’s the State Police.
They arrest you for violation of the ‘Social Media Inaccurate Information Ordinance.’
That’s 1984 in a nutshell. A novel. And idea. A fiction.
Not anymore.
We enjoy the greatest free speech rights in the United States compared to anywhere on the planet. Engrained at the top of the Bill of Rights.
Ideas derived from the 809 year old Magna Carta document, which first laid out the rights of free men and the rule of law, and the original English Bill of Rights from 1689.
Ours is way more broad, in a good way.
Which makes it super difficult to live within.
Because we have to listen to someone shout in our ears about things we completely disagree with.
That’s America.
It’s free. It difficult. It’s messy.
Everyone has a voice.
The rowdiest holiday family dinner ever right?
It’s made that way on purpose.
As a side note, the funniest thing to watch are those who yell at the top of their lungs to abolish free speech while operating under it’s protections in yelling it.
Hysterically illogical.
But necessary to keep our rights.
Some may not know free speech is conditional.
Things that incite violence are bad. Think yelling fire in a crowded theater with no fire.
Also making knowingly false statements (aka defamation) isn’t allowed.
There’s others, but those are the 2 biggies.
We CAN comment, discuss, criticize and curse at and to anyone/anything as much as we see fit. Flipping off or saying F Off to a cop is A-OK.
Rude and shitty. But fully allowed.
That’s freedom.
Back to our ‘X’ post above - about the suspect.
While a hypothetical…
It’s now reality in England.
According to the new Prime Minister and their WWII type police chief on the topic of social media posts, “We will throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you’re in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you.”
Holy shit right?
Sends shivers from the top of my head down to my aching feet.
He looks the part too.
Based on the things he and the Prime Minister have promised, I may be in violation and subject to extradition and arrest for writing this article.
Why would I say such a crazy thing you ask?
Because Elon Musk already criticized England for these laws on X comparing England to Communist Russia.
The PM and Police Commissioner (The Thought Police) specifically stated that Musk is not beyond their borders as far as seeking to extradite and put in front of the court in England for his statements.
This all started btw during the recent riots in England.
A 55 year old woman was just arrested for posting pictures and comments about a suspect from the riot on social media because “THEY” thought she was inciting violence and posting “INACCURATE INFO” about the suspect.
Various others were arrested as well. Including an older man in a video showing police surrounding him in his living room while he tells them about the medications he needs to take with him to jail.
I’m serious.
Look it all up.
The Prime Minister from hell has further stated, regarding these recent riots, that anyone who comments or posts about the riots will be arrested and brought before the courts.
At the same time, there are floods of comments, pictures and recruiting on social media organizing riots regarding Israel and Palestinians around England, some which have directly threatened to kill members of either group.
No State action there so far.
Those seem to be ok I guess.
If you think this could never happen here.
Or just want to stick your head in the sand.
I recommend you wake the ‘F’ up.
It can.
They tried it some years ago. With the “DISINFORMATION COMMISSION.”
Remember that?
It got disbanded before it started.
But…it started.
It got support.
England was always seen as just like us. They were us.
Now they’re edging toward the tyranical.
There are some valid idea to expose citizens to all points of view in equal order and context.
That’s the job of the press really
But the press has gone into political camps.
Like Russia’s Pravda.
Musk is doing a pretty good job with his community notes concept at X. Where the public square of millions comment back and forth to create input and context on a topic.
But, when the government takes over that responsibility, like England has moved toward.
That’s when we need push back as hard as humanly possible.
The alternative is to buy more disaster off grid supplies and load up on extra ammo.
